And then I
found myself watching an hour’s worth of snippets of Kate Bush on YouTube. It’s
jihnky’s fault, ‘cos she’s got friends she loves who worry about the East-West
divide and find healing wherever they can get it. This one is really great though. Apparently extremely rare. The wonders of the internet.
Because
really I had just read a fantastic quote from Barthes on photography, that I
must have read before, but never exactly heard this way. Barthes says: “The
loved body is immortalized by the mediation of a precious metal (monument and
luxury); to which we might add the notion that this metal, like all metals of
Alchemy, is alive.” (emphasis Eric Santner, who quotes it in On
Creaturely Life). And I had just come back with my reheated cup of coffee
to scribble in the margins: “Hasn’t this been obliterated by the ‘digital age’?
Which is why Caouette’s Tarnation might really be something essential.
It might be showing us what we get when we can relate to the break of this
precious metallic imprint differently."
But really
this is just to test the waters, and b/c today, I was feeling like I needed to
attest to my existence.
in hermetic philosophy the chakras are called the seven inner planets. there is a planet and metal assigned to each one.
